ItвЂ™s time to start discussing rules, and to kick us off itвЂ™s worth giving Detachments a mention. There isnвЂ™t much new content if youвЂ™ve been following the Adeptus Mechanicus for a while, but itвЂ™s a very interesting read for those new to the army. I never like going too deep into the lore part of books, as itвЂ™s always an enjoyable read going through the background when you first obtain a Codex. This primary focuses on the 7 main Forge Worlds ( Mars, Lucius, Agripinaa, Stygies VIII, Graia, Metalica and Ryza, however the book also includes a little background on 4 lesser known Forge Worlds ( Triplex Phall, Deimos, Voss Prime and Gryphonne IV). The lore section also breaks down the various sub factions with the Adeptus Mechanicus, namely Skitarii, Cult Mechanicus and Legio Cybernetica.ДЇinally the book takes time out to delve into the different Forge Worlds. It also goes into great detail about The Red Planet and the conflicts currently going on around the Forge World of Metallica, which is no supraise considering the unfolding action taking place in the War Zone Charadron supplement book. It delves into detail about how the Ad Mech fit into the Imperium. LoreДЄs with all Warhammer 40k Codexes, the book kicks off with lore, detailing the backstory of the Adeptus Mechanicus. On that note, it is worth reminding everyone that thanks to this new Codex the contents of Engine War are no longer able to be taken. No longer do we need a copy of Psychic Awakening Engine War as well as the previous codex! Contributing to the increased page numbers is the raft of data sheets for the models released during Psychic Awakening, such as the Skorpius Disintegrator and Serberys Raiders. Personally I found myself gravitating towards ranged units like the Skitarii, who combined neatly with a support tech priest IвЂ™d built with the ability to let them fire a second time on his turn.IвЂ™m a massive fan of the Ad Mech, as shown in my previous articles about the army, so have been chomping at the bit to get hold of this Codex. You can invest as heavily or as lightly into troops as you like. At first the only troops available are weak servitors that exist mostly to take hits for the tech priests, but later on more powerful variants are unlocked, all the way up to the enormous Kastelan robots. Unlike tech priests these units canвЂ™t be levelled up and customised: they get dropped on the battlefield mid-combat, and can only perform simple actions like moving and attacking.

Another wielded powerful energy weapons, which required me to spend cognition to fire them at all, meaning he often stood next to an obelisk to perpetually replenish the groupвЂ™s cognition supply.ДЄnother thing cognition can be used for is to summon troops. He mostly spent his cognition on extra movement, sometimes racing the length of the map in order to thwack a robot in the face. One of my tech priests was equipped with an axe and a bunch of melee boosting equipment. Combat revolves around a currency called cognition, which can be earned by scanning obelisks and corpses, as well as lots of other methods, and can be spent on things like extra movement or more powerful actions. ThereвЂ™s no such thing as cover, which makes combat fast and lethal, initially for the tech priests and then later, after a few upgrades, for the Necrons. Things become much more interesting in battle.
